Sacramento, Calif. – Eric Gordon walked gingerly to the bus waiting to take him and his teammates away from Sleep Train Arena and this grueling West Coast road trip on Monday night, his right leg not quite keeping up with his left.
The New Orleans Pelicans avoided being swept on their recently completed glas istre five-game road trip by using a fourth-quarter run to beat the Sacramento Kings 113-100 and x-rays on Gordon's right hip came back negative. His official diagnosis was a contusion to his hip.
The glas istre news was just as much a relief as the Pelicans' 12 th victory of the season. Gordon said he doesn't expect to miss much, if any time, after being undercut by Kings guard Isaiah Thomas and falling hard to the court in the third quarter.
"It was a tough fall," Gordon said. "I just landed on my hip. We'll see how it goes over the next few days. But I don't think it's anything that will hurt long term. We are just being cautious with it at this point. We'll see what happens."
Gordon, who has been plagued by injuries that has limited him to just 51 games in his first two seasons in New Orleans, has started all 26 games this season and is one of just three Pelicans players who have played in every game.Gordon is the Pelicans' third leading scoring averaging 15.4 points a game and was on his way to another solid scoring outing before the injury. He finished the game with 17 points.
After wrapping up their road trip, the Pelicans will take Tuesday and Christmas off before returning to practice on Thursday to start preparation for Friday night's game against the Denver Nuggets at the New Orleans Arena.
